Lisa Brown – Fashion Designer

LisaBrownFashionDesignerLisa Brown was born in Maitland, NSW, in 1973. As the youngest of six children and growing up closest in age to her brother Shay, Lisa was very much the tomboy. She was more at home playing rugby league, skateboarding and surfing instead of wearing dresses.

Throughout her teens, though, Lisa started to develop an interest in clothes and what her sisters were wearing. She loved borrowing their clothes and trying to make them fit. Her parents were unable to accommodate her taste in clothes, so she was inspired to become creative, constantly turning something old into something new. Lisa frequented op shops and loved finding vintage clothing. She developed her own style at a young age and would often wear her Dad’s white dinner shirts to school, accessorised with her mock croc brief case as her school bag.

Lisa’s fashion label was born from her passion and artistic gift in creating one-off pieces, initially only to feed her own hunger for individuality. Her own clothing caused quite a stir, with people approaching her to enquire as to where she ‘got that dress’! Recognising a need, Lisa started designing unique pieces for customers, including special occasions and wedding attire, which led to the manufacturing of limited edition ranges.

The Lisa Brown concept is quaint and unique, with her entire collection designed and manufactured in Queensland, Australia. Lisa has a natural talent and flair for creating garments that are highly individual, innovative, feminine and not only feel stunning on the skin, but flow beautifully on the body.

Business initially developed through word of mouth and has led to supplying stores throughout Australia, with the first full range launched in Summer 2006. The “V Dress” is Lisa’s biggest seller, and was part of The Source display, for up and coming designers at Australian Fashion Week, held in Melbourne. Since then Lisa’s designs have been exposed at Sydney Fashion Week, Gold Coast Fashion Week, and numerous events on the Gold Coast.

In April 2008, Lisa took the plunge and entered the NRA Australian Fashion Awards. She was not only a finalist in the Lifestyle, Children’s and Couture categories, but came out, humbly triumphant, to win the overall Prestigious Supreme Award.

The business has grown dramatically in the last 12 months, largely via word of mouth but more recently due to her label taking on an agent in Melbourne. Lisa has developed an enviable list of clients including Kate Hudson, Marcia Hines and Shelly Craft.

The journey now truly begins for Lisa to build upon these victories and become a recognised leading Australian fashion label. When Lisa is not busily working away in her business, she enjoys spending time with her husband and two children and catching the odd wave on the beautiful Gold Coast.
